I guess that's what I'm looking for here. Whatever tuner I use I'd want good tech support. The problem with this idea is not knowing the condition/status of the used ECU I'd purchase. This way I wouldn't have to worry about "bricking" the computer. I thought I might buy a used ECU off Ebay that I could then program using a performance tuner and have the stock unit available when that's what I need. There are so many tuning options available it's a little complex deciding without experience. $700 to have a file sent to me via email seems a little dicey. I like the idea of optimizing the 3 stage manifold using this technology but, was hoping someone here had tried the Bimmerworld ECU and could shed some light on it. The big difference is, you unplug the module from ignition and it reverts to stock settings. Download maps (hundreds of options according to bike/mod config) directly from mfg and install via laptop. I used to map my dynojet ignition modules on my roadracing motorcycles and it was relatively simple. It’s a less sophisticated way to increase power. The other way is to “intercept” the gas pedal signals (your car is throttle by wire with the DME reading the pedal’s position) and mod those signals. The issues are that you need a laptop computer, the maps can be overwritten by the dealer if there’s a software recall or update and you can “brick” (render it unusable) the DME if you screw up. The first way is to flash the DME with a different set of “maps.” A map is basically a set of data which the DME references to determine parameters such as ignition timing, fuel injection timing and duration, turbo boost, etc. ![]() Wiki engine and all content (C) 1998-2024 2GNT.There are 2 ways to up the power from the engine computer (DME in BMWspeak). The Modified Air/fuel gauge made by Mike or a jumptronix air/fuel meter. Road Race Engineering ( RRE) has some helpful tips on tuning with the S-AFC, the biggest thing is make SMALL adjustments, use an EGT and a precision Air/fuel gauge. Other than that, you should be set to go. The Throttle position should point up, and of course, set the number of cylinders to 4. What number you use shouldn't really matter as long as it doesn't idle funny and you are using a Pressure type setting. I have found using pressure type 7in 7out gives me the most accurate pressure readings. This is where you setup the AFC for your car. Tie off all other wires, they are for the Skyline and other cars ![]() *Note: the actual pin numbers may not be correct, if possible go by the actual wire colors When Referring to "upper" and "lower" connections, this is what it means. You will want to verify the right wires just in case of a difference. Here is a diagram of how the wiring goes for the AFCĪgain, this was done on my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, I believe the 97 and 99 models are the same but don't take my word for it. I would just make sure they put a grommet in it or you will for sure short the wires. If you have the tools drill it yourself or pay a shop $20 and have them do it. I've got 3 good sized holes now filled with wires going to my engine bay. The hardest part I think you will find is getting the wiring through the firewall. and some gorilla snot glue to hold the plastic in place. Very easy to make, you just need some plastic to make the face plate. So if something blows up don't come after me :Pįirst, find where you want to mount the AFC, I made a custom holder for it under my stereo out of a 2x4. The wiring may be different for 96 and older models, This is the wiring that I did on my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse. This will hopefully make it easier for the 97+ 420a DSM to install the Apex-I Super AFC in their Eclipse/Talon/Avenger. AFC Install on a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS ![]()
